Sona Nanotech selects Minnetronix to engineer medical device

Image
Sona Nanotech, a nanotechnology company developing pre-clinical Targeted Hyperthermia Therapy for colorectal cancer, has announced the selection of Minnetronix Medical to engineer the second generation of its infrared light device. The device will be used in Sona’s development of Targeted Hyperthermia Therapy to transfer energy by way of infrared light to Sona’s proprietary, biocompatible gold nanorods in cancerous tumours which will then convert the light energy into heat. The light device is being designed to fit in the auxiliary channel of the sigmoidoscopes and colonoscopes used by oncology gastroenterologists. Minnetronix provides medical device design, development, and manufacturing services across several technology specialties including optical devices, with expertise in complex opto-mechanics, illumination system design, optical system integration, power and heat management, and LED and laser system designs. "Sona Nanotech’s developing Targeted Hyperthermia Therapy will ...

Pathogen detection with nanotechnology

Image
Researchers turn to nanotechnology to boost the detection of pathogens, including SARS-CoV-2. Pathogen detection and detecting infected individuals during a pandemic is the foundation of any public health response. Without knowing who is infected with what, doctors, nurses, epidemiologists, and public services cannot coordinate, track, and treat the spread of disease. When the adversary is a virus, like SARS-CoV-2, that moves from person to person with relative ease, knowing a patient is contagious in an hour versus several days makes an enormous difference. Normally, diagnosing infectious diseases is mostly done by looking for the pathogen DNA or RNA within patient samples but this can be time consuming and costly. Now, a team of biologists, engineers, and chemists from the University of Oviedo and the International University of La Rioja in Spain have devised a simple and effective way to accurately diagnose the amount of SARS-CoV-2 RNA from patient samples. In an article published i...

The Future of Sustainable Agriculture with Nanotechnology

Image
The synthesis of modified nanoparticles for agriculture purposes has a promising future. Researchers have discussed its potential in a review recently published in the journal Plants. Agricultural applications of nanotechnology have the opportunity to revolutionize agricultural production. It contributes to the resolution of persistent agricultural challenges through advanced technology and materials. There is also fascinating information on commercially produced nano-enabled products used in agriculture and related industries. Traditional Agriculture Agriculture has always been the most essential and steady sector because it generates and supplies raw materials to the food and feed industries. The scarcity of environmental assets and the world's growing population requires agricultural production to be economically sustainable, viable, environmentally friendly, and efficient. This change will be critical for achieving many goals in the coming year. Several strategies for replacing...

Antimicrobial Cotton Fabric Made from Silver Nanoparticle Nanogel

Image
Antimicrobial Cotton Fabric Made from Silver Nanoparticle Nanogel An article published in the journal Carbohydrate Polymers presented a novel approach of utilizing nanogels for antibacterial fabric. Due to the recent upsurge of drug-resistant infections, it has become increasingly important to utilize potent antimicrobial agents. Nanoparticles are at the forefront of scientific research and development, and some exhibit properties which render them an effective tool in combatting such pathogens. Embedding these materials in items of daily use such as fabric can allow for continuous protection against such pathogens. Bacteria on the Rise Pathogenic bacteria are the greatest cause of mortality worldwide, with many diseases humans caused by microbe-infested surfaces. For a long time, antibiotics have dominated treatment techniques for bacterial infections and continue to do so. Despite significant improvements, antibiotic overuse has led to a dramatic surge of drug-resistant bacteria in ...
